Energy Star

When you buy new electric equipment or appliances for your home, seek out the Energy Star label. Energy Star is a government program started in 1992 that helps protect the environment through better energy efficiency. Many product categories now have Energy Star labelled products, and they usually feature lower standby power usage as well as lower overall energy use than similiar non-labelled products. For example, we recently replaced our old answering machine and cordless phones with an Energy Star labelled system. There doesn't appear to be any added cost for Energy Star labelled systems, but they do save money over the long run.
